The
Studio
We're Izabela and Austin. Long before we met, we each grew up with dogs in the house. They were there for the ordinary things: afternoons on the carpet, dinners at the kitchen table, naps that rarely went uninterrupted.
Looking through our family photographs now, it's hard to find a part of growing up that didn't have a dog somewhere in it.

Mitzi
Mitzi was Austin's childhood dog. This is one of the few photographs we have of her on her bed.
It was tucked into a corner, out of the way. She used it sometimes, but most evenings she ended up by the couch. That was where everyone was, and Mitzi liked to be wherever the family was.
At the time, it was just something she did. Years later, when we were trying to find a bed for our own dog, we thought about her again.

Lilly
By the time we adopted Lilly, we were making a home of our own. We cared about the furniture we chose, how things felt, and whether they would hold up to everyday life. Her bed deserved the same thought.
We wanted something she could stretch out on. Something supportive, with a cover we could wash and put back on without a struggle. And we wanted it beside the sofa, where we spent our evenings together.
Finding all of that in one bed proved surprisingly difficult. The ones we tried always seemed to ask us to give something up: room for Lilly, materials we felt good about, or the way our living room looked. Eventually, we started talking about what we would make ourselves.
In the photograph above, Lilly is lying on her old bed, on top of a paper outline of what would become the stone nest. It was still only a drawing, but she was already making herself comfortable.
That was the beginning of bohne studio.
We built the bed the way we would want our furniture built: a solid foam core, a fitted liner, and a tailored, washable cover that can be replaced on its own. Every decision came back to the same question: would this work in our home, with our dog, every day?

We design in Nashville and make our beds in Poland, where our family has been making upholstered furniture for years. Experienced hands cut and fit each cover. Here in Tennessee, the two of us pack each bed ourselves before sending it to your home.
There is a lot of our family in bohne studio. The people who help us make it, and the dogs who have shared our homes over the years.
Lilly, of course, knows nothing about any of this. She has a bed she can stretch out on, beside the sofa, close to us.
Just where Mitzi always wanted to be.
